About a Girl

A global citizen, a writer, a coffee lover.

Beijing, China

Sara. A lover of coffee, gin, airports, and striped t-shirts. I am one for simplicity and minimalism.

I was named after a Bob Dylan song, which is something I will always be proud of. Born in Banja Luka and raised in the Mediterranean by the sea; I lived in Hong Kong for a decade before circling back to Prague. I am rediscovering myself and the city I once knew. I’m fluent in Croatian, Czech, and English. Slovakian, Slovenian, Polish, and other Slavic languages aren’t foreign to me. I dabble in Chinese Mandarin, French, and Italian.

I started a journal as an 8-year-old and since then the habit of handwriting persisted. I created my first website in 2001 and that stayed, too. But it’s all different today; the blogging I mean. Cold and businesslike. I continue to write because I want to preserve what once was, and what one day can be.

I am not interested in pretty stories and clean selling points. I am interested in people, and their life stories. I want to know who you are. I want the rough beauty of storytelling that comes with documenting people’s lives as they are. It’s not always going to make sense and you won’t always like it, but if it can make you think differently if it can make you feel warm at heart if it can make you angry, then that’s all I care about.

I like daylight, wooden floorboards, books, and the smell of a freshly brewed cup of coffee. There’s nothing quite like the first coffee in the morning. I am one for honest conversations and comfortable silences. I am one for impromptu road trips, long train rides, and 3 am conversations at the airport. I live to travel the world.

In summer twenty-fifteen, I gave up a life in Hong Kong and all my possessions in exchange for a summer of warm days, midnight swimming, and quiet mornings on a terrace in our Dalmatian home. I realized that I’d never had less and that I’d never been richer at the same time. I thought: this is how life is meant to be lived. With full lungs, and without fear.

This corner of the internet is about that, and about me learning to live my life to the fullest and without restraints.

(The title of this page a nod to Kurt Cobain, again.)
